Tigrayan forces have claimed the regional capital of Mekelle after taking full control of the city. They’ve been engaged in eight months of conflict with Ethiopian government troops. It’s alleged that the residents of Mekelle had welcomed the development. The fighting in Ethiopia’s northern region has killed thousands of people, displaced two million and brought hundreds of thousands to the brink of famine.
